Dearborn & Greenfield Village

The next day was just a drive to Dearborn. All we did was get a hotel and eat dinner because we had to be on the road early.

We were going to Clara’s daughter in Midland Michigan with a stop at Greenfield Village. The Village is huge and replicated an American town in the early 1900. There are many demonstrations that included weaving on a loom and barrel making. The Village itself is beautifully manicured and there were people in the various houses and buildings to tell how that structure was used. There is also a Henry Ford Museum that we did not have time to see. The entire complex is gigantic. We should have spent two days there not just a few hours.

I urge everyone to look up the Village online because my description really does not do it justice.

We had to leave to get to Leighann’s (Clara’s daughter) because there was a birthday party for Clara that evening.

Summer Road Trip Days 2 & 3

Yesterday we drove from Stone Mountain to Lexington Kentucky. We didn’t get there until after 4:30 so most of the attractions were about to close, but we did make it to the chocolate factory. They had tons of great samples and a lot with bourbon centers. We then set off to find a hotel, but the first three had no available rooms. Finally we found a hotel, checked in and had some dinner.

Day 3. We decided to go to the Kentucky Horse Farm before we went to Louisville. There we saw a statue of Secretariat and Man o’War’s grave.Then on to Louisville where we went to Churchill Downs. We took the tour and viewed the museum.We had reservations at a hotel so we drove there and checked in and had an early dinner. We are now in the room for an early and relaxing night. Tomorrow we head for Dearborn Michigan.

Summer Road Trip

Clara, Beverly, Marsha and I are on a road trip through the Midwest to visit family and friends and along the way see some of the sights. We are stopping in Indiana, Illinois (with a side trip to Chicago) and Wisconsin.

Our first stop is Stone Mountain Georgia to see the laser light show. None of us has been here in years and it has changed greatly. We purchased reserved seating for the show and were seated in the front row!

Part of the show included choreographed drones. I have a few pictures of the drones.

Next we will travel to Lexington Kentucky.

Berlin

We left Dresden and were on to Berlin. After arrival in Berlin we were on our own for dinner. We went to a local restaurant and of course had beer.

Then on to the Christmas market. The market was closing so we returned to the restaurant for a nightcap. While we were inside it started snowing. The snow was accumulating pretty quickly, but was gone by the next morning.

The next day we had a brief bus tour of Berlin. We saw the Brandenburg Gate

The State Opera HouseWe also saw remnants of the Berlin Wall and the Reichstag building. We did not have time to tour inside the Reichstag but if you go it definitely is a must see. We were taken back to the hotel and had several hours before our farewell dinner. My son and I walked to KeDeWe a German department store that is like Harris in London or Macy’s. On the way we saw a Lego store went in and saw a huge replica of the Brandenburg Gate made from Legos.then we went to the Christmas market until we had to return to go to dinner.

The next morning we were up early for transport to the airport. We flew from Berlin to Zurich. The Zurich airport is bigger than Atlanta so it was a sprint to make our connecting flight. We flew from Zurich to Tampa and now we have been home for several months before I have completed this section of the blog.

Dresden and Berlin

Again we were in the bus this time headed to Dresden. We were met by a local guide who gave us a brief history of the city and then we walked to several really nice Christmas markets. The pictures are of the palace and a museum.
